Facts about mascara that you did not know

You use it every day, carefully test it, apply it in different ways, use before important and less important events. Of course, we’re talking about mascara. It is an inseparable element of a make-up bag. But do all women know the facts associated with mascara?

  1. The first mascara was invented in 1830 by Eugene Rimmel, a French perfumer who was also interested in cosmetics. The waterproof version originated in 1938. To this day this is a great solution for a wedding or a swimming pool. It’s not recommended to use it on a daily basis as it overloads the eyelashes, its removal can be difficult and causes eyelash weakness and loss.
  2. The first mascara was called Lash-Bro-ine, but very quickly changed its name to Maybelline Tort Mascara. The mascara Maybelline Great Lash was launched in 1971 and since then it has the same pink-green packaging.
  3. An improved version of mascara with a more precise brush has been created by Helena Rubinstein, and Max Factor‘s version soon followed.
  4. The first mascara in the form that we know it was first released in 1958 by Revlon. The brand also produced the first coloured mascara on the market.
  5. Why do women open their mouth when applying mascara? This way they gain control of the blink reflex, which often makes it difficult to do eye make-up. This is quite a natural thing.
  6. It’s recommended to replace a mascara every three months, no later than five months. Do it even if there is a lot of formula in the tube – never save on your health. There is probably a lot of bacteria inside that could cause eye or skin diseases.
  7. What are the best make-up tricks? If you want to add volume to your eyelashes, apply some talc on your lashes before you apply mascara. Also, if you want to avoid mascara transferring onto the eyelids, place a cotton pad under your lashes – this method will be useful for beginners.
  8. Take proper care of your eyelashes. It’s advisable to regularly moisturise and nourish them. The best idea is to use castor oil. Not only will it improve the condition of eyelashes but also stimulate their growth. Another idea involves the use of eyelash serums that are used like an eyeliner or a mascara.
  9. What can you do with mascara that has dried up but has not expired yet? Pour a few eye drops, make-up remover or olive oil inside. Carefully mix the product with a brush and the mascara is ready for use. You can also put the tube in a glass with warm water.
  10. Also remember not to pull the brush out of the tube too quickly and do not put it in too fast. Why? The air is pushed into the tube which makes the mascara dry faster than normally.
  11. You’ve just finished your mascara? Don’t throw out the brush, leave it for eyelash or eyebrow styling. Wash the brush with a make-up remover or in warm soapy water. Use the brush for applying mascara, eyebrow styling or collecting excess formula from the brush that you are currently using.
